CAN WE SURVIVE THE ONSLAUGHT OF MEDIA COVERAGE?

Divers Find Body of Toddler Snatched by Alligator at Disney Resort

The proliferation of modern day media, where is it heading and what it will do to us, is a lingering and fearful question we must ask ourselves?  With the recent news headlines, “A child falls into a enclosure with an Ape,  A child a Disney Land is snatched and killed by an Alligator and 49 people shot dead in a night club” are we really meant to have such knowledge? And how far will it go?  Do we have the capacity to handle this kind of morbid news, day in and day out?  Yes, we know it’s happening, we know every minute or so, someone is being raped, a child is being molested, someone is being murdered, we know this is happening, but are we meant to have full knowledge of all this, is our mental psyche able to handle being omniscient? I believe only God has the capacity to be omniscient, to be able to look down on earth and see and be aware of all the social ills and evils that take place on a day to day basis, but yet some how not be tainted or affected, but yet moved. Anti-depressants are at an all time high in our nation. We don’t know how to adapt to this new wave of information of the negative and sins of humanity that is being thrown at us. Some are becoming depressed and others are becoming calloused to human suffering, which one is worse? I fear for our future as the bombardment of media continues to be thrust upon us. Where will this take us down the road? Will we become indifferent to human suffering?  eg: “So what a kids got swallowed up at Disney Land by a gator" and continue to sip our Latté’s. How else can we cope, but become immune to it. But if we become immune to it, how do we compartmentalize that and not make ourselves immune to all suffering, including those near and dear to us? What kind of calloused beings will we become in the future if this does not stop? And the other option is allowing yourself to be touched by these stories and just be dragged down into shear depression and a pit misery and  despair. Neither of the two options seem like a viable option to me, perhaps a 3rd option, I have not mentioned is to stick your head in the sand, disconnect. "I don’t want to hear, I don’t want to hear it, I don’t want to know, thank-you very much". Will this work? I’ve tried this approach, but people look at me as if I’m heartless and unsympathetic….and it’s not that, it’s just I cannot handle knowing about every social injustice and evil that is taken place under the sun. Can you? Maybe you think you can, but you have simply become calloused? I have many questions, with few answers in this blog, but one thing I know, this onslaught of media that is being thrust at humanity, it is sure to take it’s toll and it will be, in the long, for the bad, not the good, we simply weren’t meant, as Human Beings, to be able to handle, what is being thrown at us, we were never meant to be Omniscient
